Von dem Buch GESCHICHTE EIN LEGENDAEREN WAFFE:
"Die Schwester-Kompanie 1001, die im November und Dezember im Räume Gmünd, Eitel, lag, wurde Mitte Januar 1945 in den Einsatzraum Düren-Urft-Talsperre-Euskirchen-Bonn verlegt und kam dort zum Einsatz. Mit drei einsatzbereiten Sturmtigern konnte sie beachtliche
Erfolge erzielen. Ein Fahrzeug fiel jedoch aus und war danach nur noch bedingt fahrtüchtig."
Von einem Kriegsgefangenen:
"The deserter at the cage was a Landescheutz, or full-duty Home Guard man, who lived in Vettweiss. He arrived at the cage in civilian clothes. He said that up until two days ago there were in Vettweiss two tremendous self-propelled mortars. The PW had no idea of the calibre of the mortars, which were mounted in specially reinforced King Tiger tank chassis, but said he had been told by a member of the crew of one of them that the shell weighed 700 pounds. The shells were loaded into the mortars by a system of blocks and tackles, pulleys and cranes. The crew member told the PW that the mortars had been used in the siege of Warsaw, and that they were designated as support weapons with a maximum range of 12,000 yards. The two machines in Vettweiss were the remnants of a battery of four – the only such battery on this front. One of the weapons had been damaged, and another was out of commission because it needed a new tube. The last two remained in Vettweiss, except for sorties to the bank of the Roer to get off a few rounds until two days ago. They were supposed to withdraw earlier, but they had run out of gasoline. Evidently enough gasoline arrived to take them to Hurrem (2758), because that was where they were going, according to the PW´s chatty friend.
Eine Panzerlage vom 15. Februar zeigt Kp 1000 mit 4 Tigern und Kp 1001 mit 3 Tigern. Ich habe Zweifel, welche Einheit in Vettweiss war und welche mit der 363 VGD.
in Vettweis befand sich der 353 VGD, der zur 15. Armee / LVIII Korps gehörte. Ich habe Zweifel, zu welchem Armeekorps sie gehörten. Obwohl sie beide im LXXXI Korps endeten.
Es gibt auch zwei weitere Informationen aus US-Berichten:
- In early February 45, another PW “saw the Bn Hq of a Sturm Moerser outfit at 062252”. (siehe karte)
- Four tiger tanks departed from Morsbach in the direction of Gemund. They left on 2 Feb. Civilians stated that those tanks have been stationary in the town for about one month. No one knew what unit these tanks belonged to.
Morsbach war der Sektor von 272 VGD/LXXIV Korps.
Ich überprüfe, welche anderen Mörser / Tiger-Einheiten im 272 VGD-Gebiet gewesen sein könnten. Aber es wäre sehr nützlich, wenn die Informationen des LXXXI - LVIII - LXXIV Korps die amerikanischen Informationen bestätigen oder ablehnen könnten. Aber ich weiß nicht, welche Berichte über diese Korps den Krieg überstanden haben, und wenn das möglich ist.
