Wer weiß, wie viele Verluste das erste und das zweite Bataillon des 29. Regiments in Salerno im September 1943 hatte (insbesondere zwischen 22 und 26. September während der Schlacht von Pellezzano).

  • Bon giorno Matteo,

here are the "Vermisstenbildlisten" ("Lista immagine mancante"?, list with pictures of the soldiers missing in action)
of the I./Grenadierregiment 29. These are not all casualties. Men surely known as killed are not listed.
May be, we can find more informations. II./GR 29 will follow.

Vielleicht können wir noch mehr Informationen finden. II./GR 29 folgt.

  • thank you :) and thanks to your help now a german soldier who story was reconstructed by salerno1943 now had a name, a face and a schiksal (fate).
but do this vermisstlisten show dead and captured or only dead?
    Matteo

  • Bon giorno Matteo,

a Vermisstenbildliste (VBL) does by far not show all killed soldiers of a unit.
The VBL were made about 1957. The were not made by the Wehrmacht. A soldier is only listed, if his family asked the German Red Cross for his fate.
Here is the story of VBL in English:
    https://www.drk-suchdienst.de/…lections-%E2%80%93-online

    Many greetings
    Bernhard

  • ah ok thanks Bernhard.
I wrote this because many missing in action were killed and probably all who were captured in Italy, in 1947-50 returned in Germany but who was in Gulags probably was killed by russians.
so who is missing in Western front is killed because after ten year a soldier gave his notices.
