Stahlhelmet des Major d. R. Joachim Menzel (RK), Heeres-Flak-Abt. 277??

  • Hello,

Sorry for writing in English - my German is a bit rusty!

I hope if anyone can assist me with below enquiry concerning this Stahlhelmet in my family's possession. I suspect that the helmet might have belonged to above mentioned persons due to 4 circumstances:

    1. The helmet is marked with handwritten name "Hptm. Menzel"
    2. J. Menzel held the rank of Hauptmann once
    3. J. Menzel was stationed in DK 2 times during his career (1941 + 1945)
    4. Obviously the helmet belonged to a rather small person

    Brief history of the helmet:
Purchased +40 years ago in Denmark and we assume that it was found in Denmark as well.

    Physical description:
    M35
Colour - green with leftovers of what appears to be White paint (Winter camo?)
Nice condition (inside leather fully intact)
Leather marked "Hptm. Menzel" written in hand (See Picture)
Red paintings on the sides of what appears to have been a split flag
Bolt on the bag of the helmet marked " ELCO"
Inside print by left ear "NS 60"
Inside print in the back "81"
Dome stamp is slightly visible in the helmet

    Special comments:
As seen on the Measurements the helmet is extremely small for an adult - judging from Pictures of J. Menzel he appears to be a very small man!

I will appreciate any comments to the helmet and if anyone can assist in determine whether or not this could possibly be a helmet worn by J. Menzel. Maybe someone has Pictures of J. Menzel's handwriting to match same with the letters inside the helmet?

    Vielen Dank.
